The Graphic Student

Alright, this video is of pieces of the 2008 Kingston (London) University Degree Show. I have seen three of the pieces they show on different websites and admired them all separately - I had no idea they were done by three students to begin with or that the students went to the same school. Major boost for Kingston University in my books. There is so much thought put into the work and the execution is top quality. This is great work from great students from a great school.

We’re showing this not only because the work is incredibly, but also because the video appears to double as a promo video for the school - so here you have this week’s SPV. I’m now split as to whether this video, or Konstfack’s is more effective in attracting students. I think for myself, Kingston University’s video excites me more and catches my curiosity… I want to see the schooling going into these talented students!

This promotional video for Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and Design deserves nothing less than your undivided attention, enthusiasm, and passion. We’ve sorted through dozens of videos for art & design schools, and so far this is the only one of quality. No voice-overs, no cheesy music, no student reading a script about how great their school is. It’s just quality design. Enjoy this one, because from here on out, the weekly school promo videos (SPV) are embarrassing in comparison (just look at last week’s).

I don’t know why, but it is incredibly hard to find a decent promotional video for a design course anywhere on the internet. Search “graphic design school” on Youtube, and you’ll find dozens of horrible videos put together by who knows, shouting about how you’ll learn great skills using industry programs, and taught by industry professionals - if that’s the case, why don’t you have them make up your commercial? My school’s is no better, but here’s one that I thought was just off the scales bad. My favourite part is the hottie holding the mac keyboard at the end…oh boy…

In honour of these, we will be posting one a week until we run out of videos. If you’re school has a video, send it to us and we’ll play it. Maybe we’ll eventually find a decent one.
